Part of the list of things that I have on my reminders is to read an article from my pocket app or from my Google alert. Anything that the title interests me I open and read. At least just one and I am done for the the day. I am doing this to see what other people are saying in written form as, well, what we usually see in social media are just junk. Mostly waste of time.

And most of the articles I read are very enlightening. Topics about work such as leadership, productivity, and stress, or about money such as spending and investing, have given me new perspectives on the matter. I even research further and used the idea as a topic in my own blog.

However, I just encountered a blog that needs to be read multiple times because, while it may have passed through writing technicalities and art, it was difficult to understand. I was trying to find what was the main topic of the blog. I had to spend some time to really understand what was he aiming to point at.

Which brings me to a thought, or a question, in my head – if we want people to read what we wrote (assuming that is the purpose of spreading it online), why do some writers make it so difficult to understand? If I am going to judge the writer, being I consider myself a writer too, what in the world are you doing using words and combination of sentences that nobody understands?

Just like in Big Bang Theory (a show I love watching), the lines brought by the actors into life are only understood by a few and made it difficult for the general audience to understand. I know those are scientific terms and all that mumbo jumbo for which I see it is okay but, for the rest, if it is real world, what purpose does it serve? Why not make it easy for the people to understand the message? Why go into the trouble of sounding artistic and smart if no one can get what you mean?

We can even bring this to our lives. The subtle messages. Not saying what we really mean. Staying silent. Not saying anything and just letting our “subtle” action speak of the message the other person can get it. Why do we even do this? Just as of this moment, I am getting a subtle message from someone that something is wrong. But, that person is not saying anything. Why not just say it?

I think we have all the responsibility to be very clear with what we want to convey. It is our responsibility to ensure that the recipient of our message understands what we are trying to say and help them receive with ease the message. The very purpose of communicating is to pass on knowledge. To pass information. This helps the survival of our species. If we have not done this, we could not have achieved the progress of where we are now.

So, you, and me, let’s just be clear with what we write. Let’s just be clear with what we say. So our listeners and readers can really understand our thoughts and avoid the guessing game.
