Weekend | Relaxing after a week of working

The weekend is here. You have spent the last five days grinding at work. You had spent 8 hours, or more so that you could finish everything on your plate. You have done this so you could enjoy a relaxing weekend without thinking about anything related to work.

And you have planned to watch and finish the series you have been wanting to complete. Or maybe go out with friends for a drink. Or, I hope this is not least in your mind, spend time with your family.

It’s common to dedicate long hours to our work responsibilities throughout the week, focusing on meeting deadlines and accomplishing tasks. This sustained effort often leaves us looking forward to the weekend as a well-deserved break from the demands of our professional lives. After investing so much time and energy into our work, it’s important to take the time to unwind and recharge during the weekend, allowing ourselves the opportunity to pursue activities that bring us joy and relaxation. Whether it’s spending quality time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies, or simply taking the time to rest and rejuvenate, it’s essential to prioritize our well-being and enjoyment during this time. So as you step into the weekend, take a moment to appreciate all that you have achieved during the week and embrace the opportunity to indulge in the things that bring you happiness.

Life is a beautiful journey filled with countless opportunities to explore and experience new things. It’s important to take the time to indulge in the things that bring us joy and fulfillment. Perhaps you have a series lined up that you’ve been eagerly wanting to complete. Set aside some time, immerse yourself in the storyline, and let the characters take you on an unforgettable journey.

Alternatively, a relaxing evening out with friends, enjoying refreshing drinks and engaging in meaningful conversations, can be the perfect way to unwind and create lasting memories. Laughter and good company can truly uplift the spirit and rejuvenate the mind.

Of course, amidst all these plans, spending quality time with family should hold a special place in your heart. Cherishing moments with loved ones, whether it’s a simple meal together, engaging in activities, or simply having heartfelt conversations, can bring immeasurable joy and strengthen the bonds that hold us together.

Though, are you really planning your non-work days? Do you really have the days planned out on what you are going to do just like at work where you have your calendar full of meetings and your notepad full of tasks itemized as your to-do list?

What leisure activities do you have in mind?

I remember the days when I was excited about the weekend because it was time away from work. I usually do nothing, watch TV, or catch some sleep.

However, that is not very relaxing or energizing at all. It makes a day boring because it is uneventful. It wastes time even if I am recharging, or so I thought.

Recharging in the sense that I am ready to work again on Monday. With my mind and body full of energy, I would be able to finish what I want to finish for the coming week. Or so I thought.

Doing nothing does not recharge us, or make us happy. It further creates boredom that leads to sadness. Come to think of it? When you do nothing on the weekend, you feel like you do not want to work come Monday. But you have to so you drag yourself to work.

    What can you do?

Instead of doing nothing, do something productive. I know that is a cliche but let me explain.

Productive means you identify what you want to accomplish for the weekend, plan for it, and then do it. Instead of letting the days go by, do something that is unrelated to work. May it be finishing that series, cooking, doing chores, playing sports, reading, or finally time to study a new skill.

The essence of being productive lies in identifying your weekend goals, planning to achieve them, and then taking action. Instead of allowing the weekend to slip away, engage in activities unrelated to work. Whether it’s completing a TV series, trying out new recipes in the kitchen, tackling household chores, engaging in sports, delving into a good book, or dedicating time to learn a new skill, make the most of your time. This approach not only rejuvenates your mind and body but also adds a sense of fulfillment to your weekend.

We have to keep our minds engaged. Engaged in different things. Engaged in gradually increasing difficult tasks. This gives us a sense of fulfillment and eventually happiness.

The importance of keeping our minds engaged cannot be overstated. When we actively engage in various activities and gradually tackle more challenging tasks, we not only stimulate our cognitive abilities but also cultivate a sense of fulfillment. This feeling of accomplishment contributes significantly to our overall happiness and well-being. Therefore, it’s crucial to seek out diverse experiences and continuously set higher goals for ourselves, as this approach can lead to a more enriching and satisfying life.

While relaxing may be helpful to reset our minds and bodies, too much of it is not beneficial. Our leisure activities should be something that still challenges us, at the same time we enjoy (just like when I write), as these help us to grow continually and live a life with purpose.

It’s important to find a balance between relaxation and stimulation in our leisure pursuits. Engaging in activities that provide a sense of enjoyment while also presenting challenges can contribute to personal growth and overall well-being. When we are able to find this balance, we can cultivate a fulfilling and purpose-driven life.

In summary, I have been down this road and it is not pretty. It was boring. It was sad. It made me feel down. That I begin to ask, is work there is to life? So, find something else to do. Engage yourself with something else other than work and definitely, you will become better than you were yesterday.
